Overview

This project will involve building a solar-powered refrigerator for communal use. Community fridges are essential services that provide reliable access to affordable and nutritious food to a rapidly increasing number of food-insecure and impoverished people in the United States. There is a significant amount of food waste that could be prevented and could instead help those in need.

Additionally, with a solar-powered fridge, the energy cost will be significantly reduced when compared to fossil fuel-powered fridges.

Furthermore, a solar-powered fridge would be better for the environment by reducing the use of nonrenewables and limiting pollutants in the environment.

The chapter will be working with the nonprofit Love Fridge Chicago who will stock the fridge and be responsible for its upkeep post project completion.
